The 7 best breeds for families
When it comes to choosing the perfect dog breed, there are a number of factors that you have to take into consideration to make sure that you find the right pooch. The most important thing is that you settle on a breed that’s suited to your lifestyle. This means that you’ll be able to give your dog the best life possible, while also ensuring that they have a positive effect on you too.
We’ve already outlined how to choose the best dog if you live in a big bustling city, but in this post, we’ll be looking at the dogs that are perfect for family life. It’s true that - with the right amount of training - almost any dog can settle perfectly into family life. Despite that, some breeds are just more predisposed to spending their time around lots of people. Plus, they can put up with kids who just love playing with them.
Labrador
There’s a reason Labradors have, until recently, been the most popular dogs in the country for years; this breed is super friendly, really playful and absolutely great with the whole family. They also make up a majority of service dogs in the UK showing that they just love being around people.
They are a fairly large breed and need plenty of exercise - but that’s always a great excuse for plenty of family bonding. Intelligent and highly adventurous, this breed is the perfect walking companion for any precocious youngsters who can’t wait to get out and explore.
If your children have never had a dog before, this breed is a great introduction to a wooftastic tradition.

Bichon Frise
If a Labrador is a little on the large side for your family, why not consider a Bichon Frise? These tiny balls of white fur are about as friendly as a toy dog can be. Sociable with both humans and other dogs, they are also very loving towards children. Little Bichons are also able to quickly pick up tricks, making them a true delight for any kids who just can’t wait to take on the role of teacher. Remember though, while they do tend to be sociable, if you do have youngsters they may take a little warming to. It’s always best to start socialising the Bichon early to make sure that they fall in love with your kids as quickly as your kids will fall in love with them. Nothing makes a family happier than a good meal and your family new member is no different.
